Conditions Treated
Specialist support for your urological health and wellbeing
TIGHT FORESKIN (‘PHIMOSIS’)
Phimosis occurs when the foreskin cannot be fully retracted over the head of the penis. This can cause discomfort during retraction, erections, or sexual activity. In many cases, it can be managed with topical treatments, but surgery such as circumcision may be recommended if the problem persists or causes repeated issues.
RAISED PSA (PROSTATE SPECIFIC ANTIGEN) BLOOD TEST
A PSA blood test measures the level of prostate-specific antigen in your blood. A raised PSA does not always mean prostate cancer, but it does signal that further investigation is needed. I provide full assessment and, if necessary, arrange additional tests to help rule out or confirm serious conditions.
BLOOD IN THE URINE (HAEMATURIA)
Seeing blood in your urine can be worrying. It may be caused by an infection, stones, or in some cases, more serious conditions such as bladder cancer. I offer thorough investigation using appropriate scans, urine tests, and endoscopic assessments to identify the cause and provide timely treatment.
URINE INCONTINENCE
Incontinence affects both men and women and can have a significant impact on daily life. It may present as leakage when coughing or exercising (stress incontinence) or an urgent need to pass urine (urge incontinence). I provide a full range of investigations and treatments, from lifestyle advice and medication through to surgical solutions where appropriate.
MALE STERILITY
I offer vasectomy as a permanent form of contraception. This is a short day-case procedure carried out under general anaesthesia for patient comfort. I provide a full consultation beforehand to ensure this is the right option for you.
PENILE CURVATURE
Penile curvature is often due to Peyronie’s disease, a condition where scar tissue forms in the penis, leading to bending or pain during erections. While mild cases may be monitored, I offer assessment and treatment options, including surgical correction where symptoms are severe or affect sexual function.
BENIGN PROSTATE HYPERPLASIA / BPH
As men get older, the prostate often enlarges, leading to weaker flow, increased frequency of urination, urgency, or nighttime trips to the bathroom. This condition, known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is very common in middle-aged and older men. I provide a range of treatments, from medication to minimally invasive procedures, to relieve symptoms and restore quality of life.
SCROTAL SWELLINGS
Several conditions can cause swelling in the scrotum:
Hydrocele – a collection of fluid around the testicle
Epididymal cyst – a fluid-filled sac in the tube beside the testicle
Varicocele – enlarged veins in the scrotum, often described as feeling like a “bag of worms”
Testicular cancer, which may present as a lump or abnormal firmness in the testicle, provides a detailed assessment to identify the cause and offer appropriate treatment, from simple day-case surgery to onward cancer management if required.
ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION
This is usually managed with medication in the early stages. I offer the full range of medical treatments and also surgical options (penile implant insertion in those refractory to medical treatments). Erectile dysfunction is very common and can be caused by a range of physical or psychological factors. Early stages are often managed with medication, but I also offer advanced treatments, including penile implants for men who do not respond to standard therapies.
URETHRAL STRICTURE DISEASE
A urethral stricture is a narrowing of the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body). It often results in a weak urinary stream or difficulty passing urine. I offer a full range of treatments, including minimally invasive procedures and surgical reconstruction where necessary.
Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
UTIs are classed as recurrent if they occur two or more times within six months, or three or more times within a year. Recurrent infections can be disruptive and distressing. I carry out investigations to rule out underlying causes and provide strategies for prevention, including lifestyle advice, medication, and in some cases minimally invasive treatment.
